The reaction proceeds with the formation of ammonium acetate and unstable carbonic acid (H2CO3), which is immediately decomposed into water and carbon dioxide.
It is also possible by-catch of 80% of th acetic acid to 10% -th solution of ammonia (ammonia). The reaction is carried out at low temperatures, for example, lowering the flask with the reactants into a vessel containing crushed ice with vigorous shaking. In industrial applications, the main method of production of ammonium acetate - acetic acid by reaction with aqueous ammonia (analog laboratory method number 2).
